We are seeking an outstanding guy or gal to work with us this summer in our studio. If this interests you, here’s what we have to offer:

-Internship from approximately mid May – mid/late August (specific dates are not set). Roughly 15 weeks total.
-150-200 hours total working time (10-15 hours/week.)
-A regular schedule with occasionally flexible hours. We have weird work weeks sometimes.
-Unpaid, sorry, but we do offer 2 weeks of studio access at the end of the internship as a thank you.

Intern tasks will be varied, and could include: sorting type, reclaiming screens, proofing fonts, cleaning, packing posters, assisting with print runs, and helping with shop organization. A good understanding of either letterpress or screenprinting (or both!) is recommended, but not absolutely necessary.

After a summer working with us, you will have first hand experience assisting in a public-access print studio, hands-on experience in typesetting, all aspects of letterpress and screenprinting, and helping with the occasional commercial printing job.

Think you have what it takes? Email your resume, cover letter, and list of references to print@baltimoreprintstudios.com. Applications are due by Monday, April 29th. Please use Summer Internship 2013 as your email subject line.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Hamilton Wood Type Mfg. Co. was founded in 1880 and manufactured printer’s type and print shop furniture well in to the latter half of the 20th century. The Hamilton brand has been bought and sold through the years, and is currently owned by Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Now operating as a working museum, the collection is being forced to move from the same building used to manufacture type since 1927. The cost for moving the equipment and collection (the largest collection of wood type in the world at 1.5M pieces!!) is steep. To make matters worse, they’ve been asked to move as soon as February.

If you’re a supporter of type or printing, or if you simply love design, please consider donating to the museum. Every sale, membership, and donation will only help.

More information is available on their website.

Consider simply purchasing a print or shirt, or becoming a member, or just flat-out donating to their cause. This is a part of printing and design history that we cannot let die.

A similar post to this is also available on our tumblr. Please reblog, retweet, repost, copy/paste – whatever you think is necessary. Help get the word out!

Friday, Oct. 26 – 6-9pm: Save the Date!

This month marks our 2nd anniversary here at Baltimore Print Studios and we’re having an open house! Friday, October 26th, we’re inviting friends old and new to come see the shop. And if you haven’t been in a while, we have a LOT to show you!

This summer, the print shop expanded in two directions, both north and west, and it has opened up exciting new possibilities for the studio. These past few months (especially weeks) we’ve been pushing hard to make the space ready to use and show off, and we can’t wait to show you as well. Everyone is welcome. We’ll have printing demonstrations, hand-printed work for sale, and food and drink. We hope to see you! Location: 18 W. North Avenue, between Maryland and Charles Street.

Friday, Oct. 26th is also Final Fridays in Station North, and there are openings and events all over the neighborhood. Please come down for the evening and stop in with us. We’ll be hopping from 6-9PM, or until the drinks run out.
