Summer Internship at BPS!

Posted by Baltimore Print Studios | April 12th, 2012
We are seeking one outstanding guy or gal to work with us this summer in the studio. If this interests you, here's what we have to offer: Internship from approximately mid May - mid August (specific dates are not set). Roughly 10 weeks total. 100-150 hours total working time (10-15 hours/week.) A regular schedule with occasionally flexible hours. We have weird work weeks sometimes. Unpaid. Sorry. Intern tasks will be varied, and could include: sorting type, reclaiming screens, proofing fonts, cleaning, packing posters, assisting with print runs, and helping with shop organization. After a summer working with us, you will have first hand experience assisting in a public-access print studio, hands-on experience in typesetting, all aspects of letterpress and screenprinting, and helping with the occasional commercial printing job. Think you have what it takes? Email your Resume, Cover Letter, and list of references to print@baltimoreprintstudios.com. Applications are due by Monday, April 23rd. We look forward to hearing from you! -BPS

Pulled: Evidence of a Print Community

Posted by Baltimore Print Studios | April 3rd, 2012
We were recently asked to "sub-curate" a print show at Case[werks] Gallery, a show of printers curating in other printers and artists who inspire them, as well as contributing a print of their own. We asked some really talented printers to join us and are so excited they said yes! Please stop by and see some beautiful, letterpress prints by Brad Vetter (Brad Vetter Design), Keegan Onefoot-Wenkman (KeeganMeegan & Co), and Kyle Durrie (Power and Light Press and Type Truck). The  opening is this Thursday, April 5 from 5:30-8pm. Other sub-curators include Goya Contemporary/Goya-Girl Press, Typecast Press, Gilah Press and Design, Litho Shop, and Open Space.

Howdy HOW!

Posted by Baltimore Print Studios | October 26th, 2011
We are very excited to share with you pages 30 and 31 of the November 2011 issue of HOW Magazine! That's US! What began as a mid-week studio visit turned into a 2-page spread in the current issue of HOW. We couldn't be more tickled to see this thing on our coffee table. If you have a chance, pick up a copy for yourselves. If you can't, just click the image above for a hi-res version of it. Thanks to Matthew Yake for taking our photos so nicely. Sorry we made funny faces.

Baltimore Beer Week

Posted by Baltimore Print Studios | October 6th, 2011
The overlap of printers and drinkers is a long standing tradition. And while we will never condone drinking while operating heavy machinery, we DO recommend the mixing of beer and printing in poster form... Baltimore Beer Week gave us total freedom on a limited edition poster for this year's festivities. The overarching theme was the American Brewery building, a stunning building built in Baltimore in 1887. The building ceased its beer production in the 1970s, and the building now houses a non-profit. But we preferred to imagine it as it used to be. We designed our poster showcasing the production of beer, from grain being poured in, to beer being pumped out. We designed the poster to be a cutaway of the building, showcasing the actual equipment that is used to brew beer. The poster is a 2-color print, and all black-portions are layered blue over red. Here are some of our favorite details: We're super proud of the illustration. The Beerweek folks are selling their majority of the edition at a private event, but we kept a short stack for ourselves. If you want one for your wall, they're available in our store! They're 18x24", hand-printed on French Smart White 110lb cover in 2-colors. Get them while they last!
